A Star On Christmas Day

It’s Christmas.  Outside the temperature is 73 degrees. The sky is clear but their’s nobody home to hold, to keep near and to keep the Christmas spirit alive. Despite the sun shinning bright it still feel cold as the winter breeze smells stale and the day seems so very old. Oh, the fuss about the need to fill this empty house. Not even small children run about.

When Honey Sweet fixed breakfast, lunch or dinner Brutha was quick to ask for a second helping of her love.  Without effort and with only a smile, Sweetie had this way of making the hair on the back of his neck stand up and tingle for a while.

The very thought of her brings him joy like Anita Baker. Now she’s gone. That big leg girl has left the building like the Four Tops. Brutha lost the one that made it possible for him to love; to finally breathe again.  Now, he grips his asthma pump tightly as he gasp for air. He should’ve found the words to convince her to stay in his corner. If only she’d believed in him.  Sadly, he finds himself behind the eight ball making three wishes for eternity.

Baby girl held his huge heart in her little hand.  She captured his mind, body and soul which was wrapped around her precious tiny fingers. Honey Sweet was his pulse; the rhythm that beats his drum. Brutha lost his sight and eventually would lose control of the situation. Maybe if he had sacrificed himself a little bit more.  Oh, how fast the seasons changed from being so hot now so very cold.  Nothing will ever be the same.  She’s now a dream of the past a place in his historical memory of what could have been.

What some people won’t do for love other’s will gladly do to secure a lifetime of happiness. Some will travel around the world to find it. Many will recognize it as soon as she enters the room. The simple touch of her hand cast its spell.  Only a few would understand.  For some it’s been far too long since they could remember what love taste, smell and feel like.

Isn’t she lovely? She’s a star on Christmas day. If he could only have one last night with her.  He’d kiss away the pain and ask Baby Girl to leave tomorrow but to always remember yesterday. Brutha lost the Creator’s greatest gift. Certainly he would do things differently if given another chance. Sweetie made a difference in his life.  She made him a better man. An all points bulletin has been dispatched.  Has anyone seen her?

No other woman had the effect which made him float like she did. He took flight whenever he would think of her name. Brutha doesn’t know how to dance but he knew how to do a mean one, two step in the name of love. Damn, this is just not right. His chest becomes tight. Another Harlem Cafe Inner City Blues moment of grief.  His bright shining star traveling so far, far away.

Why does it hurt so bad after the love is gone? He’s turned into the saddest side show in town.   Cherish the one you’re with. Love that Chocolate girl with a swirl. Make sure you let her know that you’re for real. Tell her whenever she’s around you feel at home and you can’t get enough of her love. Hold her in your arms as if there’s no tomorrow.

Don’t be a victim of foolish thinking. A closed mouth never gets fed. As you enjoy the day watching loved ones open gifts make sure you give them the greatest gift of all gifts which is love.  Be passionate about it.  The power of love is awesome, healing and revealing. Don’t be too proud or ashamed to tell them you love and cherish them. Hold them tightly in your arms ensuring they can feel you’er sincere.  Tomorrow is never promised.
